The Music Media Maven: Time to Lock In

March, you took forever to get here. Let's make this month worth the wait!

Welcome To The Guest List!

Welcome to this month’s edition of The Music Media Maven! We officially have over 1k subscribers…AH! I’m so thrilled you all are finding value in this lil newsletter. I’m Melanie, and I’m here to help you turn your passion for EDM into something profitable using social media. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible accounts like The Festival Babes, DefineEverythingFuture, and Rave with Mi Gente (and so many more) via social media. I guess you could say that makes me somewhat of a maven…which means it’s time for me to help with yours too!

Here’s how this is going to look— every month I am going to give you a lesson, a tip, a spotlight (for your inspo, duh!). We’re going to talk strategy, psychology (like it or not - there is a lot of psychology here), and once we’re done talking you are going to absolutely obliterate any obstacle holding you back. This newsletter is for creators, artists, and brands looking to stand out in today’s fast-paced digital world. Throughout the year we’ll dive into my industry secrets, get a more specific for content creators versus artists versus brands, and even offer you some LEGIT JOB OPPS. Whether you’re dreaming of landing sponsorships, making your music go viral, crafting a social media strategy that works, or building a lasting career in your dream industry, this is packed with actionable insights just for you.

Let’s make moves together!

A Page Out of the Playbook 📝

I’m coming in hot with some harsh truths this month, so buckle up. Here it is: Not all of your content is good. Some of it absolutely sucks, which is a really good thing. In fact, you need to embrace it.

Yes, I said embrace it. Because your bad content is actually valuable. It’s the stepping stone to what you need most: your Viral Content Template.

Good content doesn’t exist without bad content. You can’t improve if you’re not willing to make mistakes, test ideas, and put things out there that might flop. Every successful creator you admire has been there. Do you think they started out making flawless, high-performing content from day one? Nope. They experimented, failed, and cringed at their early work…Until it hit home with their audience.

The problem is, many aspiring creators hesitate to post because they’re afraid it won’t be good enough. They overthink, delay, and sometimes never post at all. But the only way to improve is to do. The more you create, the more data you gather on what resonates with your audience. The more you experiment, the closer you get to your unique creative style.

So instead of chasing perfection, chase consistency. Post things that aren’t perfect. Try new formats, even if they don’t work. Learn from your flops just as much as your wins. (And if you’re still unsure why your posts aren’t landing, or even where to start, I can help - book a 1:1 call here!)

Because at the end of the day, bad content is just the foundation for the content—the stuff that makes people stop scrolling. Your Viral Content Template is the format your audience engages with over and over again.

For me, it’s talking into the camera. For others, it’s singing to celebrities (think Axel Webber) or doing hilarious impersonations (think Jake Shane). One day, you’ll create something that pops off—and that’s when you double down and make it yours.

The only way to get there? Start creating.

  • Keep a running list of post ideas on your phone. Any time you have an idea, type it in before you lose it!

  • Save sounds! Save every scroll-stopping sound that sparks your interest.

  • Content batching. Use the motivation while you’ve got it. Record draft after draft, and post them throughout the week

  • Be realistic with your scheduling. Not even discipline can overcome burnout. Know your limits, and schedule your posts accordingly.

  • Keep b-roll and use it. You’d be surprised how many times you can edit the same clips into different pieces of content without anyone ever noticing.

March Spotlight: TweenkBoosieChase🔦

Chase serving down at Lost Lands 2024

If you don’t know Chase by now, you might be living under a rock. I’ve known Chase since before his explosion on social media with his iconic bass faces, and let me tell you - he is wonderful and just as hilarious in person. I wanted to spotlight Chase this month for one reason (although there are a plethora of reasons to highlight him) - and that reason is his unmistakable Viral Content Template.

You’d know that bass face anywhere, right? Exactly. When Chase’s first few videos of him “speaking in bass” started to pop off, what did he do? He kept making them! This has garnered him a following of over 227K on TikTok and over 57K on Instagram. And those numbers didn’t take years to grow. They happened FAST, because he kept creating and utilized the momentum of his VCT. Since then he’s made different styles of content, from skits to harm reduction, and it all performs well. That’s the power of a strong VCT. He found his, and I believe you can find yours too!
