The Music Media Maven: It's January

New year, new us, right?

Cue the Confetti: Your Backstage Pass Awaits!

Welcome to this month’s edition of The Music Media Maven (and the first edition ever…AH!)! I’m Melanie, and I’m here to help you turn your passion for EDM into something profitable using social media. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible accounts like The Festival Babes, DefineEverythingFuture, and Rave with Mi Gente (and so many more) via social media. I guess you could say that makes me somewhat of a maven…which means it’s time for me to help with yours too!

Here’s how this is going to look— every month I am going to give you a lesson, a tip, a spotlight (for your inspo, duh!). We’re going to talk strategy, psychology (like it or not - there is a lot of psychology here), and once we’re done talking you are going to absolutely obliterate any obstacle holding you back. This newsletter is for creators, artists, and brands looking to stand out in today’s fast-paced digital world. Throughout the year we’ll dive into my industry secrets, get a more specific for content creators versus artists versus brands, and even offer you some extra resources. For now, we’re going to start with the basics. Whether you’re dreaming of landing sponsorships, making your music go viral, or crafting a social media strategy that works, this is packed with actionable insights just for you.

Let’s make moves together!

A Page Out of the Playbook 📝

This month’s lesson is just scratching the surface of what we are going to dive into this year—and it’s perfectly on-brand for January. This is applicable to all aspiring content creators, artists, and brands…Be honest: how many times have you started the year promising to commit to something, only to fall off a few months later? Let’s take it a step further—how often have you vowed to post consistently on social media, only to let it slide?

Here’s the truth: there’s no shame in falling off. It happens to all of us (myself included). In the last three weeks, I’ve only posted three TikToks. Life happens. Sometimes you need to prioritize your mental health, your job, or just real life. And that’s okay.

The key is learning to separate valid priorities—the things truly worth taking a step back for—from the excuses you tell yourself. Deep down, you already know what those excuses are. As you read this, I’m guessing that at least two of them came to mind (if not more). That’s perfect—write them down so that you can identify your personal hurdles.

Here’s where it gets real: motivation is a scam. You won’t always feel motivated or creatively inclined to post every day—and that’s okay. What you need isn’t motivation. It’s discipline.

So, how do you develop discipline? You make your dream bigger than your excuses.

  • Keep a running list of post ideas on your phone. Any time you have an idea, type it in before you lose it!

  • Save sounds! Save every scroll-stopping sound that sparks your interest.

  • Content batching. Use the motivation while you’ve got it. Record draft after draft, and post them throughout the week

  • Be realistic with your scheduling. Not even discipline can overcome burnout. Know your limits, and schedule your posts accordingly.

  • Keep b-roll and use it. You’d be surprised how many times you can edit the same clips into different pieces of content without anyone ever noticing.

January Spotlight: Britta_Grace 🔦

Britta is a perfect example of how discipline and consistency can help you create your dream life on social media. With over 20K followers on Instagram and over 80K on TikTok, Britta has grown a strong following by showing the heck UP. At the height of her TikTok growth, she was posting up to 10 times a day, while on Instagram, she keeps it consistent with a few posts each week.

She’s worked with multiple brands in the EDM scene, like Kritter Klips, Liquid Dreams, iHeartRaves, and, of course, The Festival Babes. Britta also runs the TikTok account for The Festival Babes, posting daily to keep the energy up.

Now, you might not be ready to post as much as Britta—she’s definitely on top of her game when it comes to quantity and quality. But the reason Britta has been able to grow her following, land exciting industry opportunities, and create content that clicks with a wide audience is because of that discipline. She’s set an incredible example of what can happen when you put your mind and heart into something you truly care about.
